Associate Scientist
The Associate Scientist will contribute to all aspects of research and development of Alcresta’s medical device products.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in the development of new protein based therapeutics.
- Creative thinking to contribute to new product and research teams.
- Characterization and optimization of existing products.
- Development of analytical methods and enzymatic assays.
- Execute plate-based assays, HPLC analyses, GC, titration assays, viscometry, enzyme immobilization, microscopy and product specific use tests.
- Perform product release and performance testing as needed.
- Manage relationships with CROs for external testing as needed.
- Identify and implement new technologies as required.
- Cross functional collaboration with manufacturing, engineering, marketing and quality groups.
- Write test methods and document results in technical reports.
- Train analysts to perform laboratory procedures and assays.
- Evaluate new technologies and methods to make recommendations regarding their use.
- Communicate data and results in cross functional project team meetings.
- Technical troubleshooting as needed.
Education and Experience:
- M.S. in biochemistry, biotechnology, enzymology, chemistry or equivalent.
- 2-3 years experience in biotechnology required.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Highly motivated, flexible and enjoy working in a team-based environment with a strong interest in contributing to the research and development of new products.
- Experience with SolidWorks, 3D printing is desired.
- Ability to work independently and to concisely summarize and present results.
- Strong team player, results-oriented, willingness to work in a start-up environment, including a “roll-up-the-sleeves” attitude to perform diverse tasks necessary (and multi-tasking) to achieve objectives.
- Demonstrated technical experience in biochemistry or chemistry is required.
- Prior experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical or medical device industries is a plus.
- Experience working with food products is a plus.
- Strong analytical, quantitative and technical writing skills.
- Self-motivated and organized.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail.
Additional Job Requirements:
- <5% travel.
- Location - Waltham, Massachusetts.
